In the car he drove to school. His father's car. Who is a commercial fisherman. Whom owned the knife.

Now this kid is gonna have to change schools, and lose scholarships possibly.

It's a sad world where this will get you a suspension and possible expulsion with the police getting involved.

Yeah couldn't fit that all in the title.

That is dumb as fuck. I have a tire iron in my car and a knife too! Utility knives are useful.

I meant more to do with my image. It's a sad state of affairs this world is in.

We lost our common sense many years ago.
Case in point: http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/mandatory-hara…

Zero tolerance policy is just an excuse for administrators to avoid decision-making or accepting responsibility.

I wouldn't let a car leave the house without a repair kit in the trunk.
Jumper cables, a few tools, rags, zipties, leatherman would be some of the things in it.

Gotcha. Yeah, people need to man the fuck up, and chill the fuck out. I can't wait till my kids are older and someone tries to pull this shit.

I accidentally forgot my father's exacto knife in my jacket when I went to high school one day after cutting up boxes the night before, thankfully I didn't get spotted with it.

Not one, but two days of suspension. Make sure to bring in the SWAT team next time...

Yeah it becomes cheaper and easier just to throw a blanket over everyone, than to face the possibility of either punishing the innocent (lawsuit), or letting a criminal run free (lawsuit).

Wow.
I...
Just wow.

I can't imagine this going down well in Tennessee, of all places.

This is why you never let cops/school search your car without a warrant.

I have all of those things except zip ties in my car.

I'm sure their "zero tolerance" policy includes a rule that if you agree to bring a car to school, into their property, you guarantee the right for them to search it.
I can't understand why the parents and kid KNOWING this would leave a knife in the car, but people make mistakes. It's the whole process AFTER it was found that's complete BS.

Always had (still do) a knife in my car, even when I parked in the school lot. I probably could have gotten into trouble with it, but it was in the center console, and nobody had any reason to be in there. Also one time I forgot one in my pocket and walked halfway to the doors and had to turn around and throw it under my seat. Kinda crappy they search cars at random.
![]() 02/25/2014 at 20:28 |

It's all BS. The car is private property, and as far as I care the parking lot isn't the school as anybody can park there, not just students. You shouldn't automatically give up your rights by parking in a school parking lot.
Now, if he had brought the knife into class it would be another matter.

Yeah! How else do you restrain the hooker...I mean loose load in the trunk.
![]() 02/25/2014 at 20:33 |

Wow. People really need to grow a pair and be realistic. This hypersensitivity to everything is getting ridiculous.

Holy shit am I glad I didn't have to go to school in the US.
I've carried a 4,4" lock blade pocket knife on me pretty much every day in the past 2,5 years. It's strapped to my belt and I take it everywhere. By American standards I'm probably a complete maniac who's likely to have 50 bodies stashed in his cellar.

What the flying chicken penises, that's just unbelievably moronic. Common sense just doesn't exist anymore, does it? They might as well convict him for having a car which he could use to knock down people...
![]() 02/25/2014 at 20:44 |

Actually, all schools I know of require you have a permit on your car to park in the student lot, and part of getting a permit is consenting to being searched. Even so, students basically give up any rights to privacy once they enter campus.

Just by the standards of American school administrators. The pressure they're under is immense. If anything goes wrong, it's their fault. It's not the student's fault and it sure as hell isn't the parent's fault. These parents may talk about freedom and the American dream with their lives, but when it comes to their kids, they want a fucking police state on school property, and it extends to college as well.
